We are people of God who have been completely cured of sin through Jesus’ dying on the cross yesterday.
Today, there are two people who have started living a transformed life after having been completely cured of sin. They are Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, Jesus’ disciple. They were Jesus’ disciples, but didn’t have complete faith. Joseph was afraid of the Jews so he never publicly revealed himself as Jesus’ disciple and Nicodemus never understood Jesus’ teaching.
However, they were transformed after having witnessed and learning of Jesus’ love on the cross. After being transformed, they went to Pilate to ask for Jesus’ body and lay Him in a new, unused tomb.
If we, too, have become Jesus’ disciple after being redeemed by His love on the cross, we need not fear the world but fight against ourselves and have faith.
Despite the lack of faith in us, I pray that we won’t give up and endeavour to become Jesus’ disciple completely, through the Scripture and prayer.
Passage: John 19:38~42
38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away.
39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.
40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.
