God commanded Israelites to kill every living thing when they destroy the Canaanite cities. This commandment may sound cruel and merciless, however, God wanted to utterly destroy even the smallest thing that can influence them toward idolatry. This is how God kept Israelites pure and holy.
We face many battles with sin in our lives. The biggest danger is when we justify ourselves when we sin with excuses such as “Once is okay, God will understand”.
But no sin is justifiable and with that small sin we commit, our life will be utterly destructed. Let’s destroy all the sins in us and live in the land of God as his holy children.
Passage: Deuteronomy 20:10-20
16 However, in the cities of the nations the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes.
17 Completely destroy them—the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—as the Lord your God has commanded you.
18 Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods, and you will sin against the Lord your God.
