          • Thankfulness comes from faith
Thankfulness comes from faith in God’s providence and love. When we meet other people in our lives it may just seem like a coincidence. However, they are people God has intended for us to meet. Each person you meet has a purpose and a meaning. There are times we meet people that benefit us and other times when we meet people that benefit them. If there are people we meet who help build up our life, there are also times we meet other people so we can love and serve them.
There are people who give love. These are people who enrich our life and make us more mature. On the other hand, there are people who hurt us and give us scars. These are people who help us to look back on ourselves and help us to grow. Love makes us mature and pain makes us grow. So, you can be thankful not only for those who give us love, but also for those who give us pain.
Life always comes in twos. When there are good times, there are also difficult times. When there are happy times, there are also painful times. When there are times of joy, there are also times of sorrow. God shapes our life through these two paths. Just as having only sunlight would make a desert, if there was only rain, it would make a swamp. Just as both sunlight and rain are needed together, happiness and pain, joy and sadness, are necessary in life.
In times of happiness and joy, we are thankful, but in times of pain and sadness, it is easy for us to complain and grumble. This happens when we don’t see pain and sorrow as God's providence.
It may seem like it would be wonderful if everything was fine and comfortable, however, such a life would make it easy to live a life far from God. On the other hand, when we encounter adversity or difficulties, although it is hard from a human’s perspective, it becomes an opportunity for us to seek God and rely on Him. In the end, we can become thankful for adversity because we grow spiritually and become stronger.
A lack of thankfulness is not because there is nothing to be thankful for, but it is because we do not believe in God's providence and love. When we believe in God's plan and love in everything that happens in our life, we can give thanks for the path we have taken and the things that come ahead.
Now, the year 2022 is coming to an end. As we reflect back on the year, I hope you can end the year with thankfulness and welcome in the new year with great hope.
