The 36th Oceania Shepherds Conference concluded well with grace. 350 people had gathered for the conference and it felt like a festival. The Melbourne Hosanna Church provided the main preparations, and the house churches in Melbourne united to serve the conference. I wrote down three things I felt after attending the shepherds conference.
Firstly, it was the recovery of shepherds and shepherds’ wives. I think this was the most important point. Each of them must have come from their own mission fields with tired and difficult hearts, but there was a touching recovery. As they prayed over their hurts, wounds, and conflicts they were able to experience recoveries and these were truly moving and unforgettable.
Secondly, it was about being able to sing praise in their own language. I thought this is what it will be like in heaven. It was also nice to have an interpreter for all the events. To be considerate to people who speak other languages, English, Australia’s national language, was shown first and then followed by Korean. I thought this was very necessary for multi-ethnic evangelism. So, I think we should work harder to build up the church, not just for Koreans, but as a church where multi-ethnic people can worship together.
The third was the acts of service from the pastors. The pastors provided acts of service to the shepherds and shepherd’s wives to comfort them and it was beautiful. Pastors and pastor’s wives served in the kitchen by washing dishes, serving food, and looking after the shepherds’ children. Not only through the lectures, but pastors also gave performances like plays etc to provide comfort to the shepherds and shepherd’s wives and it was touching.
The role I played in the play was the ‘voice of Jesus’. In the play, when the pastor’s wife prays, “Lord, why did you call us, who are so lacking? Are you really here?” it is a scene where I am meant to say: "Of course. I have called you...“ however, in that moment the prayer of the pastor’s wife felt real in my heart and my heart was crying so it was difficult to say the line. I felt that this must be the heart of the Lord for the pastors, shepherds and shepherd’s wives who want to build the church that the Lord desires.
