Elihu distinguishes the human cries into two kinds, the cry of the sinner and the cry of the righteous. He says that God does not hear the cry of sinners. If we only emphasise on God’s righteousness like Elihu, we will miss God’s mercy. This perspective will make us look at the weaker members of faith with cold and condemning eyes.
God answers to even our smallest moans. He is the One who joins in our pain, hardship and suffering. He helps us fix our gaze back to Him during our suffering.
What cries and moans should we listen to with God’s heart today?
Passage to read: 35:1-16
9 “People cry out under a load of oppression;
they plead for relief from the arm of the powerful.
10 But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker,
who gives songs in the night,
11 who teaches us more than he teaches the beasts of the earth
and makes us wiser than the birds in the sky?’
12 He does not answer when people cry out
because of the arrogance of the wicked.
13 Indeed, God does not listen to their empty plea;
the Almighty pays no attention to it.
