As the Israelites do evil again they are given into the hands of King Jabin who, having 400 chariots, cruelly oppresses them for 20 years. And it is only when the Israelites experience a pain they cannot bear anymore and when they are at the brim of death that they seek for God’s help.
Enduring pain that one receives as a punishment whilst not knowing the very sin that caused it, is not an example of one’s competence but it, in fact, is an instance of their situation of unrepentence and sinful state of their stubbornness.
When we experience suffering that is caused by sin, the correct approach is to turn back to God to repent and call out to God as soon as possible.
Passage to read: Judges 4:1-10
1. Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, now that Ehud was dead.
2. So the Lord sold them into the hands of Jabin king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor. Sisera, the commander of his army, was based in Harosheth Haggoyim.
3. Because he had nine hundred chariots fitted with iron and had cruelly oppressed the Israelites for twenty years, they cried to the Lord for help.
