Gideon had gathered people for the battle against Midian but they hid because of their fear. However, Gideon defeats the Midianites with 300 men. Those who had been hiding appears before Gideon and complains, “why didn’t you call us?”
If Gideon didn’t have qualities of humility and gentleness, he would have surely lashed out at them.
Instead, he speaks with wisdom to prevent division amongst the Israelite tribes.
He says, “What have I accomplished compared to you?”
Passage: Judges 8:1~9
1 Now the Ephraimites asked Gideon, “Why have you treated us like this? Why didn’t you call us when you went to fight Midian?” And they challenged him vigorously.
2 But he answered them, “What have I accomplished compared to you? Aren’t the gleanings of Ephraim’s grapes better than the full grape harvest of Abiezer?
