After Moses finally accepted God's calling he goes from Midian, to the land of Egypt. And as he approaches this land, God tells him two things as a word of encouragement.
First, it was that all those who wanted to kill Moses were dead and second, it was that God allowed Moses to hold the staff of God in his hands.
The staff of God was the power of God. It represented the promise that God will always be with him and that God will fulfill the mission of Exodus no matter what. Moses had nothing to lack or fear now.
When we hold onto the mission God gave us, I hope that we remember that our lives that were at first normal, or the materials that were just plain objects can become tools for God's miracles. I hope that we can confidently go forth into the world with faith in this.
Passage to read: Exodus 4:18-23
18 Then Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, “Let me return to my own people in Egypt to see if any of them are still alive.”
Jethro said, “Go, and I wish you well.”
19 Now the Lord had said to Moses in Midian, “Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill you are dead.”
20 So Moses took his wife and sons, put them on a donkey and started back to Egypt. And he took the staff of God in his hand.
