“The prayer of the cross that saved me”
Jesus was abandoned by everyone. His disciples abandoned Him. Garot Judah sold Him and Peter cursed and swore he didn’t know Him. Soldiers cast lots to divide Jesus’ clothes among themselves, the crowd stood and watched, and rulers mocked Him. The soldiers made fun of Jesus and said ‘If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself’ as they gave Him sour wine.
And Jesus was crucified with two sinners that deserved to die.
Jesus prayed as He was treated like one of the worst sinners and abandoned.
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
For whom was Jesus crucified?
Recognising yourself as a sinner is God’s grace.
Those who know that they are a sinner and repent will receive salvation.
What does Jesus’ prayer on the cross mean to you? It is a prayer of love and forgiveness towards me.
We who have been saved also have a calling of bearing our cross.
And it is a cross of love and forgiveness.
Passage: Luke 23:33-38
32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed.
33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left.
34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”
36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him.They offered him wine vinegar
37 and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”
38 There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews.
