Although the teachers of the law and the Pharisees seemed to have maintained their holiness and lived according to the laws on the outside, they were full of greed and indulgence on the inside. God scolds such hypocritical lives of faith that only strive to gain respect from others.
If one lives with Jesus's heart in them and are clean on the inside, then the Bible says that that person's outerself will also naturally become clean. Let's throw away our hypocritical ways that only appear to be good on the outside and instead become a people whose hearts are clean, and strive to be like Jesus so that our lives can be a channel to flow God's love through to others.
Passage to read: Matthew 23:25-39
25 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
26 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.
27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.
