Due to the hot weather in Palestine back in these times, it was natural to provide cold water for any visitors from far away. The disciples of Jesus however did not receive this treatment because they preached the gospel, but those who did welcome the disciples experienced works of God, such as their families receiving salvation or receiving the Holy Spirit.
God sees all the work that goes into serving His workers as precious. Even now, there are many precious missionaries living for the gospel in far away foreign countries. I hope that God will bless us with abundant grace through our prayers and service for these workers of God.
Passage: Matthew 10:34-42
40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.
41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward.
42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
