Envy and Ambition
Ishmael listens to the king of Ammon and kills the people and Gedaliah, who tried to bring back the people left of Judah.
This was because of Ishmael’s heart of envy and ambition.
Like so, we can see that someone’s selfishness and greed can change hope to despair, and make a community fall into chaos.
God says “The greedy stir up conflict, but those who trust in the Lord will prosper.” (Proverbs 28:25)
A wise person is one who listens to God’s voice, not someone who follows the voice of their greed.
Let’s meditate on what the selfishness and greed we have in our hearts are today in front of God’s word.
Passage: Jeremiah 41:1-18
2 Ishmael son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him got up and struck down Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword, killing the one whom the king of Babylon had appointed as governor over the land.
3 Ishmael also killed all the men of Judah who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, as well as the Babylonian soldiers who were there.
