Jeremiah faces a predicament in today’s passage. Those who disliked his messages of judgement and distress plot to throw him into a deep cistern. And just when it felt like it was all over, God rescues Jeremiah through the people that He had ready.
We too have moments in our lives when we feel like we are floundering in the mud. But what we ought to remember in times of deep despair is God’s hand, and not the painful reality. God will never leave His people. When we trust in His help and wait, He will save us through amazing ways.
Passage: Jeremiah 38:1-13
9 “My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all they have done to Jeremiah the prophet. They have thrown him into a cistern, where he will starve to death when there is no longer any bread in the city.”
10 Then the king commanded Ebed-Melek the Cushite, “Take thirty men from here with you and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies.”
