          • From desperation to hope

Jeremiah conveys the message that many people will be taken captive into Babylon. And in that kind of situation, God commands Jeremiah to buy his cousin’s field and have the deed of purchase witnessed and put in a clay jar to be stored. In reality it does not make sense to do such a thing in a situation like this, but through the purchase of this land God promises to restore the people. Amid desperation that the people are in, God’s promise of the hope of a future gives them strength as they hold on to this hope and endure their lives of hardship.

I hope for us to also trust in the God who will change our desperation into hope to the end.

            Passage to read: Jeremiah 32:1-15
9 so I bought the field at Anathoth from my cousin Hanamel and weighed out for him seventeen shekels of silver.
10 I signed and sealed the deed, had it witnessed, and weighed out the silver on the scales.
