Abraham did not become the father of faith through the law nor through circumcision. This was through believing in God’s promises. Abraham trusted and believed in God’s promises even when all hope seemed lost. God regarded this as righteousness.
All people of faith live their life with faith in times of hopelessness. If we only hold onto what is visible and are in our reach instantly, that is not living by faith at all. When we trust and believe in God’s promises in times of despair and hopelessness like Abraham, God will regard us as righteous and He will fulfil the promise He has made to us.
God’s promises will always be fulfilled.
What is my faith like today?
Passage to read: 4:8-17
13 It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.
14 For if those who depend on the law are heirs, faith means nothing and the promise is worthless,
15 because the law brings wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression.
16 Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.
17 As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
