When I read the bible I come across some merciless scenes which surprises me. If there is a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they disciple him then the men are to stone him to death. In order words, kill the rebellious son. The reason for doing this is to remove the root of evil. But even so.. I think the law is very scary. However, the rebellious sinners mentioned in this passage is referring to us. It is telling us how rebellious humans are before God. Rebellious, stubborn and not obeying.. But how do you think God felt, when He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for such rebellious sinners?
Realising how much of a rebellious sinner we are, is the beginning of understanding the gospel.
Passage to read:Deuteronomy 21:15-23
18 If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him,
19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town.
20 They shall say to the elders, “This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.”
21 Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.
22 If someone guilty of a capital offense is put to death and their body is exposed on a pole,
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
