The Book of Amos in the Old Testament teaches us how important Christians’ ethics and morals are. At the time, the Israelites had recovered their glory that had fallen during Jeroboam II’s reign and their politics and economy were at their best, like the days of King David and Solomon. However, God saw it differently.
It seemed as if they had rebuilt the fallen temples and had recovered their worship, but their lives were far from it- they persecuted the poor and made unfair judgements. They regarded worship as separate from life.
When we see why Christians today are criticised, it’s not because of their lack of faith or worship. It’s because their lives have become corrupt. They praise God but don’t live a life that pleases Him. We must scrutinise our lives to see if we are having a positive influence on those around us. God gladly accepts worship of those who lead a just life.
Passage: Deuteronomy 16:13-22
18 Appoint judges and officials for each of your tribes in every town the Lord your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly.
19 Do not pervert justice or show partiality. Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the innocent.
20 Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the Lord your God is giving you.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
