          • Overcoming despair

In today’s passage, Thomas, one of Jesus’ disciples doubts Jesus’ resurrection.
He had passionate faith, saying in John 11:16, “Let us also go, that we may die with him” but possibly because of the great shock he received from the incident of the cross, he finds it hard to believe Jesus’ resurrection.
Thomas only recovers from his shock after having touched Jesus for himself.

We too, can be traumatised and be in despair after a big shock. It prevents us from moving on to a new life. But it is never God’s will for us to be trapped in the past, unable to live a new life. God wants us to proceed to a new life.

Let us see Jesus who invites us to move on from the past and walk a new path.
When we can wholly see the love of the cross, I believe we will gain the courage to overcome our despair.

            Passage: John 20:24-31
24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.
25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

            1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
            2. What is God’s message to you?
            3. What do you need to obey?
            4. What are you grateful for today?
