Everyone judges by their own standards. Today, the Pharisees and the teachers of the law bring in a woman who had committed adultery to test Jesus on what He thought was right.
Who do you think is a big sinner and who is righteous?
And what is a deadly sin and what isn’t?
If we were to distinguish them, how would we set the standard?
And who could be the judge of this?
Jesus is telling us today that before we judge someone, to look at ‘ourselves’ first. In verse 7, he says, ‘Let any one of you without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.’
To me, this verse is like Jesus saying, ‘You can’t talk!’
Are we righteous enough to judge others? Are we living a righteous life?
Who are we to judge and condemn others?
Hence, I reflect on the Lord’s Word and take a look back at my thoughts and actions to see if I am on the right track, and tell myself, ‘Lord, I will do my best!’
Passage: John 7:53~8:11
4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.
5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?”
6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.
7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
