If you know who you are, what you ought to do, and what kind of preparations you need to make for it, you are a very happy person, because it means that you know the very reason for your existence.
Today, John the Baptist knew exactly who he was, what he ought to do, and what he was preparing.
He was just a voice of the one calling, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord’ and he asked himself, ‘Who am I?
What must I do for the Lord?
What must I prepare for it?’
Today, as a new year begins, I meditate deeply on who I am.
Passage: John 1:19-28
20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”
21 They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” Are you the Prophet?”
He answered, “No.”
22 Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
