The Nicolaitans in the Book of Revelation believed only in soul salvation, much like the ‘Salvation sect’ that exists today.
This was a dangerous belief that meant that because only our souls are saved, it doesn’t matter what kind of sins we commit in our physical body. There were many people in the early church that took their acts lightly because of their influence, and those with weaker faith were more at risk of sinning.
Jesus rebukes this ideology. Jesus didn’t die on the cross so we could sin as much as we liked. In fact, God’s will for us is to have a grateful heart and to do good because we were saved by grace, without price. Let us be careful of the doctrines of the Nicolaitans and be careful not to sin, and strive to have a holy heart and be a holy temple of the Holy Spirit.
Passage: Revelation 2:12-17
14 Nevertheless, I have a few things against you: There are some among you who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to entice the Israelites to sin so that they ate food sacrificed to idols and committed sexual immorality.
15 Likewise, you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
