In the New Testament, there are many religious leaders who are blinded by honour and greed. They made enemies with those who were more popular and had more supporters than themselves and committed evil deeds by secretly killing them or provoking the crowd with false propaganda. This was very much like King Saul trying to kill David for no reason, out of jealousy.
When we are obsessed with honour and greed, it becomes toxic and blinds us. It makes us anxious and agitated, causing us to lose discernment, and Satan takes advantage of this and destroys us.
In order to prevent honour from being toxic in our lives, we must lower ourselves with modesty and service. Our honour and supremacy is up to God. When we humble ourselves before God, He will then start to lift us up.
Passage: Luke 22:1-13
1 Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching,
2 and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.
3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve.
4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus.
5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money.
