In Greek, church is pronounced ‘Ekklisia’. This word means a ‘group’ or ‘crowd’ with a specific aim. This word ‘Ekklisia’ appears in Acts, but it referred to the crowds who accused Paul and made him pure from sins. Depending on our aim we can be a ‘church’ or a ‘religious cult’.
The aim of the church is saving souls and make disciples, but it is also to love and serve others. The community which Jesus wanted to build was not a meeting like the ‘Pharisees’ who hated and murdered each other for God’s glory, but instead it was a community where people loved and served each other for God’s glory. Sometimes when others make mistakes, if we look to the cross and cover their faults for them, we will become a genuine community of love, the ‘church’.
Passage: Galatians 6:1-10
1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.
2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
3 If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
