Numerous philosophies and ideologies were rampant during Saint Paul’s time. Just as we live in a time with an overload of information online, Saint Paul lived in a time of overload of ideas. People then didn’t have correct standards established for them and their own thoughts and opinions became their idols and the gospel of Jesus was at risk of being distorted. In today’s passage, Saint Paul criticises many Jews (Pharisees and Sadducees) and philosophers who distorted the gospel that says that Jesus Christ was the one and only truth.
The gospel we have received is a precious gospel delivered to us through Jesus’s crucifixion and through the persecution and difficulties of numerous Christians. There still exist heresies and philosophies that are trying to distort the gospel and deceive us into believing that Jesus is not the only truth but we mustn’t forget that the gospel was not delivered through people’s ideas but it is a precious gospel delivered through countless sacrifices and blood. Appreciating Jesus’ gospel and spreading it is ultimately a way for us to serve Jesus.
Passage: Galatians 1:1-10
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—
7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse

3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
