Today’s passage from the Book of Titus talks about the Cretans who must have been notorious liars. They were false believers who confessed with their lips that they believed in God but did not act as if they did. The people of the church in Crete suffered from their negative influence and Saint Paul advises Titus that in order to keep our faith from them, we must rebuke them and beware of their evil nature.
In the workplace, I come across people who say one thing and do another, and when I spend a lot of time with them, I find myself being more and more like them. When this happens, I will distance myself from them and remind myself of my faith. It’s not easy to have pure faith when we are surrounded by deceit and falsehood and sometimes we need to isolate ourselves from these people. We must stand by our faith from liars and deceivers who can contaminate us.
Passage: Titus 1:10-16
12 One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”
13 This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith
14 and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth.
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
