King Ahaz was unfaithful and did evil in the eyes of the Lord and forsook him. He turned his face away from the Lord. Therefore, the anger of the Lord has fallen on Judah and Jerusalem. When Hezekiah became a king he opens the doors of the temple and organises the priests and Levites to remove every form of defilement and perform cleansing rituals to purify the God’s temple. Hezekiah recognises the failure of those who forsook the Lords how he has made them an object of dread and horror and acorn and that the anger of the Lord is unavoidable. Hezekiah purifies all the furnishing and instrument used for the worship of the Lord in order to approach the Lord and minister to him.
God tells us today that each and every one of us are his holy temple, thus we should maintain our hearts purified to avoid his anger. If the temple if filled with defilement we need to seek God with humble heart and open the door of the temple to purify our hearts and restore the relationship with him.
Passage: 2 Chronicles 29:1-19
3 In the first month of the first year of his reign, he opened the doors of the temple of the Lord and repaired them.
4 He brought in the priests and the Levites, assembled them in the square on the east side
5 and said: “Listen to me, Levites! Consecrate yourselves now and consecrate the temple of the Lord, the God of your ancestors. Remove all defilement from the sanctuary.
