Amaziah the king of Jerusalem did what was pleasing to the Lord, yet his obedience to the LORD is not wholehearted. He hired a hundred thousand men from Israel to strengthen Judah’s army at a cost of about four tons of silver. But when the counsel of a man of God tells him that it was a mistake to hire men, He dismisses the troops from Israel, choosing to go into battle with only his soldiers, and God rewards his obedience with an incredible victory and overflowing riches. Though there will surely be moments in our journey when we, too, will face fear of failure or loss. Let us learn from Amaziah’s mistakes and choose to listen and obey God in everything we do. God rewards people who obey and rely on him with victory and heavenly rewards.

7 But a man of God came to him and said, “Your Majesty, these troops from Israelmust not march with you, for the Lord is not with Israel—not with any of the people of Ephraim.
8 Even if you go and fight courageously in battle, God will overthrow you before the enemy, for God has the power to help or to overthrow.”
