          • Our relationship with others is important

Rehoboam’s behaviour in today’s passage helps us realise how we need to act in our relationships with others.
If Rehoboam had not only listened to the advice of the young men who had grown up with him but of the elders that had served his father, he would not have been betrayed by his own people.

There are a lot of people in a community and there are bound to be those who will disagree with my thoughts and plans. When we respect those who disagree with us and raise them up with encouragement and generosity, we will succeed in our relationships with others. On the contrary, if we only voice our opinions and display arrogant behaviour, then those close to us may leave us.

So what’s important in a relationship is “balance”. This is “balance” between my opinion and that of others.

Let us spend the day thinking about our behaviours in our relationships with others.

            Passage: 2 Chronicles 10:12-19

13 The king answered them harshly. Rejecting the advice of the elders,
14 he followed the advice of the young men and said, “My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.”

            1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
            2. What is God’s message to you?
            3. What do you need to obey?
            4. What are you grateful for today?
