As a community becomes larger, I believe a ‘leader’ is essential. When the Book of Acts was being written, many unbelievers came to believe Jesus through the gospel shared by the apostles.
So the apostles chose a ‘leader’ in order for them to continue performing their duties and to ensure their church community was going in the right direction.
The requirements of a leader in the New Testament Church are different to what the world requires.
A church leader must:
look after the weak, be kind with the love of Christ, always seek God’s will and wisdom, and seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit every day.
God has called us as ‘leaders’ to bear the role of a royal priesthood.
I take a moment to reflect on myself through today’s scripture.
Passage: Acts 6:1~7
1 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.
2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.
3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them
4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”
1. Did you think of Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God’s message to you?
3. What do you need to obey?
4. What are you grateful for today?
