There was a meeting at a tool-shed. The gathered said that they could not live became of the hammer who was always so noisy and loud. So they said to the hammer "We can't live because of your noise. Get out of here." So the hammer said " I agree that I am noisy, but I am not the main problem here. It’s the Saw. That Saw always cuts down us. If that Saw goes out, I'll go out too.." So the Saw stands up and says "Hey that plane tool is the problem. That guy doesn’t care about how we feel and always pushes us down..". Then the Plane tool says " The biggest problem is that measuring tape. "That tape always thinks he is perfect and is always right. We need to kick him out. The hammer observed the situation.
Then the carpenter came in. He gathered all the tools and started making a wonderful piece of work. "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10) The church needs people like hammers, measuring tapes, plane tools… this is a church. God uses the tools in his toolbox to make our unfinished work into a complete work. What we need is patience and a open heart to embrace others.
Challenge for change
1. What kind of tool am I? Also, what kind of tool is God using to make me into a masterpiece.
2. How should I respond to those who give me a hard time?
