Jonah says to throw him into the sea as he is the cause of the storm. In a way it seems like Jonah's sacrifice is an attempt to save the people on board, but it is him actually displaying disobedience trying to follow his own plan.
God wants us to be a person of obedience that embraces God’s heart. In the end, Jonah's stubbornness can not but be broken before God's zeal.
Passage: 1:11-17
11 The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him, “What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?”
12 “Pick me up and throw me into the sea,” he replied, “and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you.”
