In Amos's period, the Israelites were filled with pride and spiritual laziness.
Even today as Christians enjoy wealth and abundance, they move further away from trusting God. It is a period where wealth and enjoyment has become an idol.
We must repent our laziness and idle hearts and renew our directions to God. We must not forget the time of judgement and not be deceived by the lies of the worldly spirit. We must not waste our time and put effort to live out the gospel.
Amos 6: 1-14
3 You put off the day of disaster
and bring near a reign of terror.
4 You lie on beds adorned with ivory
and lounge on your couches.
You dine on choice lambs
and fattened calves.
5 You strum away on your harps like David
and improvise on musical instruments.
6 You drink wine by the bowlful
and use the finest lotions,
but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.
7 Therefore you will be among the first to go into exile;
your feasting and lounging will end.
Questions to think about:
1. Did you think about Jesus when you woke up this morning?
2. What is God telling me?
3. What do I need to be obedient with?
4. Write down your thankful prayer.
