Having finished the 958th House Church Seminar for Lay Leaders, I have briefly summarised the survey statistics, analysis and reflections of those who took part.
One survey question asked, “Why do you think house church is working for this church?” To this, 79% answered, “Real life change through the devotion of the shepherds.” On how the seminar was run, 97.7% said, “We could see service everywhere, and we were amazed by the many volunteers.” On the house church they were assigned to, 83.7% wrote, “We felt the power of the house church in the way they served us with all their hearts.”
As for what helped most, the fellowship of staying in shepherds’ homes and the honest testimonies of the shepherds and shepherds’ partners were ranked equal first. They were most challenged by the practical life of service you have lived until now. Asked how our house churches differed from other small groups, the most common answer was “a family-like atmosphere in which non-believers do not feel uncomfortable.” They also said they were greatly challenged by the Olive Blessing, the deep sharing of life, the warm hospitality towards VIPs, and the children’s house churches.
After the Corporate church service on Sunday, 74.4% confessed, “It was a grace-filled service in which we experienced the work and comfort of the Holy Spirit.” One person wrote, “It was striking to see many nations worshipping with one heart, beyond language and culture. I go home with a new hope.”
Beyond the survey, the reflections you sent in also contained confessions such as: the seminar “became a turning point in my life,” “was an opportunity to look back on the life of faith I have lived all my life,” and “I discovered the cause of the emptiness of my life, and I will devote myself to the mission of saving souls and making disciples, which is like the Lord’s last will.” As I read these confessions, my own heart was set on fire.
All the participants resolved to return to their own churches with conviction about the house church, and to devote themselves as shepherds and shepherds’ partners or as co-workers. I believe all of this is not the labour of a few people, but the fruit of all of you serving with one heart.
Word of the week
Next week is our children’s VIP invitation, Jesus Win Day. Instead of going along with Halloween, let’s help our children come to church for Jesus Win Day and hear the gospel.
