          • Watching the War in Iran

Recently, the world has been watching with tension the conflict between Iran and the United States. The aftermath of war signals a looming global economic crisis. Throughout human history, the Middle East has been a powder keg where wars have never truly ceased. From a biblical perspective, this region is not merely a geopolitical hotspot but also a spiritual stage where God’s redemptive history unfolds.
Human history teaches us that there is no such thing as an “eternal victor” or “eternal peace.” The rise and fall of the Persian Empire (modern-day Iran), along with the repeated wars leading up to the present, show that human ambition and the logic of power can never last forever. Ultimately, war belongs to God, and beyond the complex interests hidden behind conflicts between nations, it is God who sovereignly governs history.
We must learn to see the world from a redemptive-historical perspective—that is, from God’s plan to save the world. During the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, there were reportedly only about 500 Christians. Yet today, despite it being illegal to believe in Jesus, Iran has become one of the fastest-growing countries in terms of Christian faith (source: the mission research organisation Operation World).
The Bible warns that as the end times draw near, there will be continual wars and rumours of wars (Matthew 24:6). From a biblical perspective, war is a painful manifestation of a world corrupted by sin. The world constantly urges us to possess more and to rise higher. Uncontrolled greed and desire ultimately lead to destruction. In such a time as this, the Bible and history clearly point us to the right direction for life.
The wealth, achievements, and glory that people pursue in this age are all temporary. Investing our lives in what is not eternal is the most foolish investment of all.
Though we live with our feet on this earth, our eyes must always be set on heaven. Otherwise, each day becomes an unending battle of desires and ambitions. We need not fear the economic crises that may come, because God has a plan to accomplish the salvation of His kingdom. Rather than being swept along by the worries, anxieties, and desires of this world, we are called to live each day with joy as God’s redeemed children, looking forward to the return of our Lord.

            Word of the week
Today is Resurrection Sunday, when our Lord overcame the power of death and rose again. The resurrection is not only a past event or something that will happen in the future, but a “present power” that gives me new life today. With faith in the resurrection, let us no longer remain in darkness, but live each day with hope.
