          • 48th Church Anniversary and Thanksgiving

The streets around our church are filled with the soft purple bloom of jacaranda trees. Every year around this time, they blossom without fail, painting the city with their gentle colour. Their hue feels like a whisper from God saying, “I am with you.” It is not a dazzling colour, but one that quietly colours the streets — a colour of grace, a colour of thanksgiving.
This year marks the 48th anniversary of Sydney Crystal Church, and personally, it is also the 23rd year since I began ministry here in Sydney. Through all those years, there have been many moments and many stories, but in each one, we can see the gracious hand of God. I am most thankful that our church has been built up as a healthy, biblical church, that our house churches continue to grow, and that we have witnessed more than a 5% baptism rate each year — with a total of 290 baptisms to this day.
This year, we will celebrate our 48th Anniversary Service together with Thanksgiving Sunday on November 16. Since last year, rather than holding a thanksgiving service on Chuseok (the Korean harvest festival), we have chosen to follow the church calendar for Thanksgiving, as Sydney Crystal Church has been growing into a multi-cultural congregation centred around ANW.
Here’s how we can prepare for this special Sunday:
Firstly, invite your VIPs — the people you’ve been praying for — to the Sunday Corporate Worship Service and make it a time to share stories of thanksgiving for God’s grace. Encourage your house church to invite the VIPs you’ve been praying for.
Secondly, prepare a Thanksgiving offering. The more specific your thanksgiving, the more meaningful it becomes. When you give, write down what you are thankful for on the offering envelope. As you lift up your thanksgiving with a sincere heart, God will surely be pleased.
Thanksgiving that is rooted in God will bloom again and again as time passes. As we celebrate our church’s anniversary and Thanksgiving Sunday, may that same purple grace blossom richly in your life as well.

            Word of the week
Next Sunday, November 16, the Sunday Corporate Worship Service will be held in celebration of the church’s 48th anniversary and Thanksgiving Sunday. Please invite your house church VIPs to join the service.
