The purpose of the House Church ministry is to build a spiritual family community and to fulfill the Lord’s Great Commission—saving souls and making disciples. However, the goal of weekly house church meetings is to experience the presence of God. The “presence of God” means that God is with us and is actively working among us. Then how can we experience God in our house church meetings? There are three goals to pursue:
The first is experiencing God’s love through warm fellowship. God is present in our meetings. His love is revealed through our acts of service, encouragement, and comfort. The house church members who share faith experience the warmth of being a spiritual family through serving and loving one another. Meanwhile, VIPs can indirectly experience God’s love through the sacrificial and loving community that is rarely seen in the world.
The second is experiencing God’s healing through sharing life. God is with us in our conversations. The Holy Spirit reminds us of what to say, bringing inspiration and healing through what is shared. Many people today are weary from broken families and the struggles of life’s competition. Yet, an even greater pain is having no one to open up to. In the house church meeting, when members naturally share their weaknesses and scars, healing begins as they express themselves. Through listening to others’ stories, they also come to see their own pain and problems through the eyes of faith, realise their sins, and experience God’s healing work in their lives.
The third is experiencing God’s power through answered prayers. Even among long-time churchgoers, prayers are often vague and lack expectation. But in the house church, as members become a spiritual family and share their lives, they come to know each other’s specific needs and prayer requests. They then pray earnestly for one another. Amazingly, as they look back, they see how many of those prayers have been answered—experiencing the power of the living God. This happens because the Holy Spirit is present where two or three gather in His name.
Word of the week
This week, there will be graduation ceremonies from each education department. Behind the scenes, our pastors and teachers have faithfully served with unseen dedication. Let’s find an opportunity to thank them for their hard work and devotion.
