          • Pacemaker

During Pastor Yoon’s sermon last week, I was blessed by the word “Pacemaker.” Looking further into its meaning, I found that it has two definitions. First, in medical terms, it refers to an artificial heart device that helps the heart beat regularly when it is too weak to function properly. Second, in sports, it means a supporting runner in a marathon or long-distance race who sets and maintains a steady pace so that the main runner does not tire out and can achieve the best possible record.
I applied this word to the ministry of shepherds. Shepherds are running a long marathon of caring for souls. While there is great joy in this journey, there are also times when they feel discouraged or too weary to continue. At those moments, what is needed is a pacemaker.
Firstly, the Pacemaker of Prayer. For a shepherd not to become spiritually exhausted, the role of house church members who pray together is essential. Prayer is like a spiritual pacemaker that restores the shepherd’s spiritual heartbeat with strength. The prayers of the members are the greatest source of strength for shepherds.
Secondly, the Pacemaker of Service. Just as a pacemaker in a marathon prevents the runner from overexerting alone, the cooperation of the members helps the shepherd not to be overloaded. When the ministry of the house church is shared together, and the shepherd does not have to carry every burden alone, they can keep running steadily without burning out.
Lastly, the Pacemaker of Encouragement. A simple word such as “You’re doing well” or “Thank you always,” a small act of gratitude, or an expression of encouragement gives fresh strength to the shepherd’s steps. The power to finish the race often comes from such warm encouragement.
Beloved congregation, please be the pacemakers who help shepherds finish their race well. Through prayer, service, and encouragement, when we run together, every soul will be led to salvation, and the house churches and the church will be built up in more healthy.

            Word of the week
This week, the Madagascar short-term mission team will depart for an 8-day schedule. Please be a prayer supporter so that they may complete their mission well and return safely until the day they come back.
