How to decide what's important
As a pastor, there are moments when I have to make important decisions. However, since pastors are human, there are many situations when making decisions can be difficult. So, when it is difficult, I ask God for His heart while praying, and not just rely on my own thoughts.
As I read the textbook for the “Life of Experiencing God” bible study that I was leading, I realised how the church can make important decisions. When the church makes a major decision, the reasons why the decision can be a mistake or fall into disarray, is because it is based on worldly business management methods. How many voted for the cause? How many were against it? And following the opinions of the person asking. It is important for the church to seek God's will rather than an individual’s opinions, because such questions can lead to division within the church.
Pastor Henry Blackaby wrote that when making important decisions, we should ask, "Who, here, feels that God is telling us to go in this direction?" This question is not a question to ask for people's opinions, but to know what God is saying to the church. That's why it is necessary to have time to pray for all to be guided to have one heart before making an important decision.
We are praying for a long period to decide on purchasing an additional property for the church. It is not about sharing pros and cons with individuals on their opinions, but to receive sincere guidance on what God says. I hope all of you will pray honestly and experience God's guidance. After the special prayer campaign is finished, at the request of the Churches of Christ, there will be a final time to listen to God's guidance and for church members to vote on the acquisition of an additional property (75% must vote in favour). Voting will not be a time to consider pros and cons, but a final decision in following God's guidance.
No matter what the decision is, I hope it will be a moment where everyone can experience God's guidance and work together with a united heart.
