          • The training for joy

I realised how much God wants us to live a life that pleases us while teaching the last unit of the Life of Godliness, ‘The Training for Joy’ last week. As Richard Post said, “The essence of the Christian way is joy”. When Christ came into this world, through the angels, “…I bring you good news of great joy that will be given to the whole world” (Luke 2:10), and before he left this world, he told his disciples, “My joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete” (John 15:11).

The gospel obtained through Jesus Christ is the greatest joy of gaining eternal life, bringing joy to the poor, freedom for the captives, the eyes of the blind being opened, and the oppresses being set free. That is why Augustine said, “Christians must be hallelujah from head to toe”.

Then why? Do you think that the face of joy has disappeared from the modern Christians and replaced by a face of gloom and worries?

Richard Post urges us to praise loudly to restore joy. Praise is to please and exalt God. When we praise the works of God in a loud voice, the darkness within us is removed and joy is restored.

It is astonishing how happy the youth students are when they dance and praise so loudly at church camps. But I don’t know why they are so rigid or passively praising during the Sunday worship service. When David gave up his face as a king and danced and praised God with all his might like a child, God exalted David’s life to the highest extent possible.

I hope we can praise God like David. Evil spirits will depart as we sing our praises with joy. All diseases will be gone, the depression and anxiety of the heart will disappear, and you will be freed from addiction and oppression. Hallelujah!
