Looking at the war between Ukraine and Russia, I feel both sad and angry. Innocent people dying in civilian facilities indiscriminately bombed by the Russian army, people weeping in air-raid shelters, families slaughtered by the bombing while evacuating… Still, I’m afraid that it might escalate into World War III, or a nuclear war. Situations where you can only look and see with a sickening heart… Why would Putin in Russia wage such a disastrous war?
The Bible already foretold the war through Russia. The country of Russia was Magog in the book of Ezekiel or Revelation. In the land of Magog, the nations of Ros, Meshek, and Tubal (Ezekiel 38:1) existed in union, and they are excatly the names that refer to Russia. The etymology of the name Ros is the etymology of the name ‘Russia’, and the Greek pronunciation of ‘Meshek’ is ‘Mesek’, which refers to ‘Moscow’, the capital of Russia right now. Dubal is the Hebrew pronunciation of ‘Tobolsk’, the city that presides over Siberia, a Russian territory.
It could be thought that Putin in Russia is a human without emotions, but as prophesised in the Bible, he is being manipulated by the powers of evil spirits who are working powerfully behind the scenes. As the whole world is concerned, if World War III is started by Russia, there is a possibility that it will be a war like the war of Armageddon or the war between God and Magog as prophesised in the Book of Revelation. It will be a time of great tribulation that the whole world has never experienced before.
Jesus already foretold of the war (Matthew 24:7), when he spoke in various ways about the signs that would occur in the last days. Already, we are experiencing signs of the end of times that humans cannot bear, including epidemics like Coronavirus, floods, wildfires, earthquakes, and even the treat of the third world war that could become a nuclear war.
What should we do as Christians while looking at these signs at the end of times? The church must be prepared as a church like the ark of salvation, just like the judgment time with Noah’s flood (Matt 24:38). And the Christians must be awake in repentance and clothed with Christ in righteousness so that they are not swept away by the greed and desires of the world (Revelation 18:15).
