Information on the voting of deacons
We will soon hold the voting to elect deacons. Ten candidates have been nominated through the process. The Election Management Committee (Church Management Committee) have provided additional information to the process that was provided in the past (refer to the pastoral column from 18 August 2018 for the procedure for ordaining deacons).
1. Sydney Crystal Church will appoint deacons who will take the lead in the operations and ministry of the church. Becoming an ordained deacon requires a dedication of time. Candidates for deacons must submit testimonies of salvation, testimonies of calling, a self-introduction and commitments before the election is held that will be used as reference material in the election.
2. Election to select the final candidates: The candidates for deacons are elected through a vote at the All Shepherds Meeting (this is to elect the final candidates for the registered members voting). Final candidates are elected for the registered members voting if they receive two-thirds of the “yes” votes at the All Shepherds Meeting. Candidates who do not attend the All Shepherds Meeting cannot be voted on.
3. Registered members voting: Final candidates will need to receive 70% of the votes to be elected (more than 50% of registered members must vote). Final candidates will need to prepare some documents prior to the vote, to assist members in voting.
4. Ballot paper: The names of the candidates will be listed in order of age. The reason for this is to be considerate of those that are elders in the faith. A picture of the candidate will be attached in order to let the registered members know who the candidates are and the types of ministries they are involved with in order to assist them with the vote.
5. Training process: Ordained deacons will need to pass the training process and have the ordination ceremony.
