Mokjangs is the answer to the future of the church
Having strong faith means having good relationships. Relationships with God and with our neighbours. And having good relationships can be seen through one’s fellowship in the church community. Those who lead a happy life of faith or are mature believers usually have good fellowship. In contrast, those who find their church life boring or difficult usually aren’t able to fit in the community.
Christianity in Korea has been greatly influenced by the western Christianity which is self-oriented, focusing on salvation for individuals rather than a fellowship based faith. However, the Bible considers salvation of a community more important than salvation of individuals.
The book of Revelations which we are currently looking at also talks about comfort and victory for the church rather than for individuals.
Since COVID-19, churches have not been able to hold services and the first alternative to the church is small groups such as mokjangs. This is because having a self-oriented faith that is focused on an individual’s salvation and worship rather than having fellowship results in failure. The reason our church is unwavering despite COVID-19 is because we have mokjangs and our mookjang leaders have chowons.
Does anyone think that being saved and attending service is enough, and find it troublesome to go to mokjang gatherings? In order for your faith to mature, a spiritual family that helps each other mature is crucial. If we let go of the fellowship-focused faith in which we can depend on one another, we never know when our faith will hit rock bottom. Please remember that what allows me to hold onto my faith is not my confirmation of my salvation or my biblical knowledge but my spiritual family. Hence we must make an effort to meet every week. We must open up with one another, pray together and serve one another and overcome any difficulties together rather than trying to overcome them alone.

If you have opted for the online service rather than coming to church for worship solely because of its convenience, you must rethink your decision. The kind of worship God wants from us is giving our very best, and sacrificing ourselves rather than choosing convenience.
