At the scene of the House Church mission in Dumaguete Philippines
We arrived in Dumaguete on the 4th December, 30 hours after leaving our homes in Sydney. Every day has been a touching, graceful time for us as we see the fruition of missionary Park Sunggook's works since he started a house church here six years ago. We will give a report of our time here once we return, but here is a brief overview of our visits to the mokjang leaders' homes and their mokjang gatherings.When we visited the mokjas' homes, the state of their homes was a shock to us. Dennis' home was made out of bamboo and plywood, and was very small. The house had no electricity, only a small solar-powered light was used to light the dark. The battery for the light was almost gone so our mokjang leader Sungwon replaced it with a new one for him.The fact that people still lived in such a place in the 21st century was a shock for us, but what was even more surprising was that Dennis had ten VIPs baptized in his mokjang. We had touching tears running down our faces as we listened to stories of Dennis and his wife serving people just like themselves, having gatherings every week, in this place without electricity.According to missionary Park, Dennis buys and resells brooms at the market and earns 100 pesos per day which is equivalent to $3. Out of 150 pesos he earns, he spends 70 to serve food for his mokjang members, and lives only on 30. When a mokjang member was going through a tough time,he returned the brooms he had got for 1000 pesos and spent this money on his mokjang member. He looked rugged, like he belonged to a gang, but his heart resembled Jesus. I had to agree with missionary Park when he said that since knowing Dennis, he has never judged anyone by their looks.We are greatly touched every day, by how through the house church, missionary Park Sunggook and his wife Lee Sunyoung, their three children and the members of Blessing Church are practicing God’s love that flows to the lower place.
