“To be born again” is a spiritual transformation experienced by those who accept Jesus Christ through God's authoritative power. However, a “conversion” is a change of direction achieved through one's conscious decision. When someone throws away their sins and turns to God, they experience a change and this is called a conversion and when they are converted, their life of faith becomes clearer. However, when they are not sure of their conversion, their faith does not grow.
The rate at which our faith matures depends on the individual but there will not be an internal change unless there is a conversion. Without a definite conversion, no one can lead a life of following Jesus. Bible studies can help with gaining knowledge, but without conversion, no one can experience a radical change in their lives. So when one is appointed a position in the church without conversion, they fail to set an example and end up becoming a negative influence to the church.
When conversion takes place, there are certain signs- repentance, gratitude and obedience. Those who have converted repent of their sins and are grateful for God’s love. They also try to obey what God wants them to do. When there is certainty of conversion, obedience will come most naturally, however without this certainty, obeying God becomes a burden.
Therefore, the less the church and individuals are moved by conversion, the more spiritually weak they become. There are less people who are willing to obey and commit, and less positive changes in their lives.
Also, one must be confident of their conversion in order to become involved in soul salvation. They can participate when the church encourages soul salvation but their participation is not out of sincerity. Unless they experience the joy of their sins being forgiven and being saved, they are unable to genuinely want to lead unbelievers to Jesus.
I hope that those who have accepted Jesus but have yet to be converted are able to step away from the path of sin and consciously direct their path towards God so that their confession of faith does not remain on their lips or in their heads.
