Last Wednesday, pastor Min Mankyu preached about giving thanks and has encouraged us to think more specifically about being grateful. Living as immigrants can cause us stress and it can lead to the amygdala, which is a part of the brain responsible for emotions, to harden, making us a negative, whiny person. If nothing is done about it, we will continue to lead a depressed, unfortunate life, but once we start being grateful, we can stop the stiffness. Being grateful everyday can make your life more joyful.
I would like to suggest to everyone to try a thank you movement in our mokjangs, and below are some ideas we can implement:
First, write down five things you are thankful for everyday- in the daily devotional your mokja sends you each morning, try writing down five things you are thankful for that day.
Second, share what you’re grateful for in your mokjang gatherings- During sharing time, also talk about what you have been grateful for by reading your list of things you have written during the week. You will no longer be saying ‘this week’s been no different from last week’ and you will start being grateful for things you have been taking for granted, relationships will be restored, and mokjangs will become more interesting. When someone is sharing what they’re been grateful for, be encouraging by clapping and telling them how happy you are for them and this increases our gratitude.
Third, throw a thanking bomb- if a member of your mokjang is going through a tough time and needs comforting, everyone in the mokjang can say what they’re grateful for for this person. You can write it down and read it aloud to the person. When we have 7-8 people saying how grateful they are for that person, it will definitely give them new strength.
Fourth, when giving your offering, instead of putting your offering in a blank envelope, write down what you are grateful for and God will surely allow more blessings to be grateful for.
"Do not be anxious about anything… with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." (Philippians 4:6)
This week's message
In order for soul salvation to take place consistently, we must continue to care about and pray for our VIPs. We must have a list of five VIPs in our mokjangs and pray for each one of them by saying their names out loud, in our personal time and during mokjang meetings.
