Joint worship services with living grace – review of the Three Axes training
We had a Three Axes training conference from 23rd to 24th May at MJ Resort in Jejudo with Pastor Choi Youngki. The following is an edit of an article written by Pastor Lim Mincul of Somang Church on the House Church Ministry forum. The article is of my presentation on “Joint services”.
Pastor Song’s presentation which started with the question “Why are house church worship services so graceful?” explained the reason for such a graceful joint service. One of the reasons is because the church members live a life of serving others throughout the week and come to church on Sunday with prepared hearts. The worship service includes everything to do with saving souls and living as disciples (baptism, testimonies of being saved or having completed a Life Bible Class, testimonies of multiplying as a new mokjang, etc.) and every member of the church participates so that even VIPs feel included during praise and worship and commitment time.
Sydney Crystal Church has 1st and 2nd services for adults each with their own colour, and a 3rd English speaking congregation service. The 1st service is for married adults, 2nd is for singles, and 3rd is an English service for 2nd and 1.5 generation immigrants. What was more special about the church was that they had communion every week. The fact that the church belongs to Church of Christ in Australia may be a reason for this but more importantly, the fundamentals of the gospel is explained during communion each week, so members of the church can hear the gospel every week. Pastor Song emphasizes visual worship and he considers communion as a visualisation of the word of God. I was challenged by his explanation that the communion gives people another chance to stand before the gospel. Another special quality was the effort made in integrating generations. Crystal Church has a bright future ahead of them thanks to these qualities. Pastor Song admitted he was physically weak, but when you look at his ministry, he is like a giant of faith. He started a house church blindly, after having read a book, but he soon based his ministry on strong principles after realising the importance of principles through a pastors’ seminar he attended. His church is now a model of growing churches amongst the 300 plus Korean churches in Sydney and this is only made possible with his efforts in making his church members worshippers before God. Even Pastor Choi Youngki complemented him after listening to the presentation and said ‘He is doing well’, and I’d love to visit one day should the opportunity arise.
After the presentation and question time was over, director Choi Youngki said that “churches with graceful worship service flourish. And it’s because there is volitional commitment.” He emphasized the importance of volitional commitments during worship time. He also said that worship service is ultimately about experiencing God’s presence and experiencing his supernaturalness, and ultimately about spirituality. – Reporter Pastor Lim Minchul
