          • Let us not waste the small joys in our lives 1 (North America House Church Ministry Director Pastor Lee Sukwan)

I (Pastor Lee Sukwan) did not have such a happy childhood. My father was very scary and my home was a place I always dreaded going back to, a place I had to force myself to go when there was nowhere else to go after dark. So I spent my youth always considering myself unfortunate. I also habitually thought about taking my own life. I spent my youth being negative and unhappy about everything, always finding something to complain about. And someone with such a pessimistic mindset can never lead a happy life. You are continuously tortured with negative thoughts.
And it was God who saved me from this. He allowed me to meet my wife, who is always happy and optimistic, and allowed me to live a life which completely contrasted my past. And He met me in my early thirties, when I didn't know Him at all. They say where there is great sin, there is greater grace. I was so happy at the thought of receiving salvation that it would make me choke up walking down the street or as I lay in bed at night. But, this does not mean that I became a person full of joy overnight. I was still angry at little things, impatient, worried, and negative. It was such a long standing habit that it was going to take a lot of effort and time to change. And now in my late fifties, I can finally look back and see that I have gradually changed and am a happier person. What made me a happy person? Looking back, the most important thing was not wasting the small joys. If we take a moment to look around us, there are small things that make us happy and we have to be able to enjoy them. (To be continued next week)
