I attended the 85th House Church Conference for ministers and the two-day training of the Three Axes with Pastor Choi Younggi which commenced last Monday in the beautiful island of Jeju. What made this year’s conference extra special was Pastor Choi’s resignation from his role as the director of House Church Ministry International. The events were prepared and hosted by house churches in Jeju.
House churches in Jeju are mostly small in size, and their hospitality was tearfully touching. What made it more touching than conferences in the past was that they were determined to serve the 600 pastors that were visiting, with joy. And one church with only 15 members created a fund and contributed 10 million won for the event.
Pastor Choi Younggi had saved the best for last with his house church leadership lectures for ministers and the three sermons he preached during the four-day event. It was ever so touching from start to finish.
His first lecture titled “Love flowing downhill” helped us learn what kind of life he had led and he had a word of advice for his junior pastors In his last lecture, “How to end your ministry well”.
Seeing Pastor Choi leave Houston’s Seoul Church and his role as the director in the House Church Ministry allowed us to see what it meant to step down gracefully.
During meal time, he quietly came and sat with me and my wife and thanked us for our House church ministry in Australia and encouraged us.
After the conference followed the two-day training of the Three Axes with ministers from Oceania.
I introduced Sydney Crystal Church’s service with a presentation titled “United service with living grace”.
This Sunday, Pastor Sung Baekyoung will be preaching at “Derham Church” which recently opened with the vision of saving souls and making disciples.
Seeing so many ministers strive to work purely for God’s Kingdom gave me hope for churches in Korea.
I will now be spending the rest of my time here visiting relatives and leaving on Wednesday with a stopover in Vietnam and arrive on Friday.

This week’s message
If I don’t change today, my future in a year’s time will remain the same. A happy future is a blessing for those who strive to change each and every day.
