          • Why we should live a life of service

As I prepare for Life of Reverence (경건의 삶) which I am currently teaching, I am receiving immense grace. At our last class, we learned about serving others and shared our thoughts on what makes us hesitant when it comes to serving others. The hesitation comes from fear of 'being taken advantage of' and 'facing difficult situations'. I imagine the same thoughts cross our minds when we first consider committing to becoming mokjang leaders then back out.
To those who are reluctant to serve, the reasons we must live a life of service are as follows:
First, we cannot live as Jesus' disciples without service in our lives. Jesus called his disciples to his side and washed their feet, and said, “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” (John 13:14-15). He tells us that without living a life of serving others, it's impossible to become his disciple.
Secondly, your faith grows through serving others. You face difficulties, mokajng leaders feel used, and these hardships make them cry. However, most admit that this is the right thing to do. With this mindset, mokjang leaders find themselves changing and becoming a disciple through serving others.
Thirdly, you will have greater heavenly rewards. They are rewards that are not visible to the eye but living a life of service brings joy that others do not know. This is why when those whom they have led to church are baptized, they cry tears of joy. When I asked my students ‘What is a heavenly reward?’ they replied, it was God’s comfort. It was joy that others cannot understand. And it was blessings their children received. And I think that the biggest reward of all is ‘ becoming more like Jesus’. The more we become like Jesus the more blessings we will experience here on earth and in heaven.

            This week’s message
The testimony assembly continues this week from Tuesday to Wednesday. Let us all believe that God has special grace in store for us and do our best to attend with an adoring heart of a child.
