In public toilets in Korea, there is a sign that is often seen inside: “Beautiful people leave beautiful traces“. This is a promotional sign created to improve hygiene of public toilets and it means we should use and leave the toilets in a clean condition.
The statement made me think of the importance of our traces. After service, there are times when I am tempted to put up a sign for everyone to check their surroundings before leaving. I believe the church is a place for everyone to look after and we should check our seats at least once before we leave.
When we apply this phrase in our lives, there is something important we realise- we are not able to see what we have left behind. This means we have no idea what the place we have left is like, and the traces we leave are not for us, but for others, to see. When others see the place we have left, they can judge what kind of person we are and what we have done. If others are able to see our traces of life and judge us, we are fully accountable for those traces we leave behind.
Let us look back as we conclude 2018 and think, ‘what kind of traces have I left behind?’
This week’s message
“Thank you to everyone who has served and dedicated themselves as mokjang leaders and in various ministries in 2018.”
